The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics brought together the world's top athletes in one of the most renowned competitions in the world. This visualization seeks to celebrate athletic greatness, exploring two intriguing dimensions of the Games: the overall performance of nations—highlighting their total wins and success rates across events—and the competitive journey within the men's and women's singles tennis tournaments. By combining country-level achievements with detailed tournament brackets, the data offers both a macro view of Olympic dominance around the world and a micro look at how an individual sport (tennis) unfolded, revealing the paths champions took to claim their titles.

This visualization shows the relationship between team size and medals won at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Of the 11,110 athletes competing for 1,043 medals, larger teams generally won more: the United States sent the most athletes (619) and earned the most medals (126), while all four single-athlete teams earned none. However, medal totals alone don’t reflect overall success. The U.S. achieved a 20% success rate, while Saint Lucia, with 4 athletes and 2 medals, reached 50%, illustrating that quantity does not always equal success.

This visualization traces the nine-day progression of the four finalists in the women’s and men’s singles tennis tournaments at the 2024 Olympics, all played on Roland Garros’s iconic red clay. The single-elimination format halved the field each round, with player seedings determining bracket placement—typically positioning the top two seeds on opposite ends to meet in the finals. In the men’s draw, the top seeds, Novak Djokovic (1) and Carlos Alcaraz (2), finished first and second as expected. In the women’s draw, however, Iga Swiatek (1) placed third, and Coco Gauff (2) did not medal; instead, the wild card Qinwen Zheng from China took home the gold.
